RANCHI: Engineers at the Mecon and Heavy Engineering Corporation Ltd. (HEC) Ranchi are awaiting with bated breath as the country's ambitious moon mission, Chandrayaan-3, readies for lift-off from Sriharikota in
Andhra Pradesh on Friday.
Speaking to TOI, senior general manager (rolling mill) of Mecon Nisheeth Kumar, said, "Chandrayaan-3 will blast off tomorrow from the launch pad that was visualised, designed, tested, and commissioned by Mecon, Ranchi, from where the previous Chandrayaan missions had taken off.
Since Mecon lacks manufacturing facility, the launch pad and its allied components were made by Indian firms like the HEC in Ranchi, the Tata Steel Growth Shop at Seraikela-Kharsawan, Godrej in Mumbai, among others."
"All equipment and systems were manufactured for the first time in the country by Mecon. Other actions like procurement of equipment, spares and other inputs, including importing these components from abroad, were also executed by Mecon. This was a challenging job that we completed and ISRO approved," he added.
His counterparts at HEC, Ranchi, pointed out that the PSU played a vital role in manufacturing the mobile launch pedestal, folding-cum-repositionable platform, 10-tonne umbilical tower crane and 16 sets of horizontal sliding doors for the rocket assembly building.
